Artificial Intelligence gurus predict that supercomputers' artificial intelligence will reach the maximum level of human intelligence within 10 years. This is called The Singularity.
The Singularity is the hypothesis that artificial superintelligence (ASI) will abruptly trigger runaway technological growth, resulting in unfathomable changes to human civilization.
According to this hypothesis, an upgradable intelligent agent (such as a computer running software-based artificial general intelligence) would enter a "runaway reaction" of self-improvement cycles, with each new and more intelligent generation appearing more and more rapidly, causing an AI intelligence explosion - and resulting in a powerful super-intelligence that would, qualitatively, far surpass all human intelligence.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Futurists predict that AI enhanced body parts and "treatments" will be incorporated into human beings - ultimately resulting in trans-humans. Lets face it, lots of us would like to have a better functioning body. This is bound to appeal, and may quickly become as "normal" as hip replacements - with little heed to the ultimate ramifications.
Within 25 years it is predicted that artificial intelligence entities will exceed that of humans 1 billion fold.
(I say entities because trans-humanists are already demanding equal rights for trans-humans, and some AI geeks think AI supercomputers may have humanoid surrogates).
Anyone who does not recognise the likelihood of not only a huge economic divide; but a huge class divide - as entities with superior physical strength, "organ-like" function and super-intelligence compete with ordinary humans for work, or running things - is naive.
Killer drones are currently controlled by human beings. But autonomous killer robots are currently under development.
Shouldn’t we be talking about these things?
The late Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk, Bill Gates and other big names in science have expressed major concerns about the potential consequences of autonomous artificial intelligence entities - including the potential consequences on the very existence of the human race, as we know it.
But, the AI train has long left the station, and there is no stopping it.
We need to be talking about the impact of robotics and AI on people, and on the human race.
There has never been a greater need for ethical leadership, and the world is suffering due to the lack of it.
Those we elect must be ethical, or we have no hope that they will monitor and regulate these developments, to mitigate the consequences of the effects of AI and robotics on the public, as far as it is possible to do so.
We need to be talking about these things. This is why this conversation starter T-shirt was created.
